We are a society of graduate students, faculty, and other associates dedicated to organized research in education at the University of Chicago. Our mission is to maintain focused attention on the major questions suggested by education today and the scholarship that addresses those questions. It is our belief that a successful approach to issues of modern education must feature a symbiosis between theory and practice. The Society for Educational Scholarship promotes tight articulation between those who seek new knowledge, those who apply that knowledge to the daily operation of schools and school systems, those who create policies that guide institutions of education, and those who teach. Its members support the application of rigorous research protocol to questions of importance to education. Further, they argue that the consideration of educational matters is of relevant and vital concern to any social science research program.
